 Kane aka Rocky's Story

May 13, 2003 - Chisel was a stray in western MA. After spending several months in foster care, Chisel finally found the RIGHT family. Today he was adopted by Steve, Patti and their elkhound Lokie. Steve went out and bought Chisie a new collar, leash, LL Bean dog bed, toys, treats, etc., etc. He was so excited to come and get Chisie...Chisel is getting great owners! Steve has tomorrow off and will be home all day with Chisie and Patty is going to work from home on Thursday to be home all day with him.

June 30, 2003 Update - "One January 2003 day, I started searching the Web for all the adoptable dogs and rescue organizations in my area when I fell upon TRC. I of course immediately went to the "Adoptable Dogs" page to take a peek. Now, I already had one Rottie female, age 5, at the time, and had just put down my male Dobe in November 2002. I knew I wanted a second dog again but wasn't sure if I wanted another Dobe or Rottie.

When the Web page of "Adoptable Dogs" opened, I saw some cute faces and great write ups, so I couldn't resist. I immediately applied for adoption and was interested in four males from the Web site. Luckily for me, the TRC staff knew me from another rescue organization where I adopted my female Rottie, Sadie. Yippee, by the weekend I went to visit three out of the four males and brought Sadie to meet them.

She showed interest in two of them and it was a very hard decision to make, but we decided on Kane, now known as Rocky. Rocky was estimated to be 20 months old when I adopted him and boy oh boy was he a handful. He was an 85 lb, and still growing, "young" pup. We kept him crated in our bedroom while we were at work during the weekdays.

He would break out of his folding, wire crate every day, so it soon became a permanent, non-folding crate. The entire home has hardwood floors, and on one fine day, he jumped and shook his crate to move all the way across the floor and over to the bed. By the time I got home, portions of the comforter, blanket, sheets and a corner of the mattress where eaten and pulled inside his crate. During the first couple of months, he chewed a pair of shoes, towels and four remote controls...Yes, this boy did have chew toys in his crate with him and around the house when out of his crate. I didn't think I was ever going to make it through this stage with him.

My last two adopted dogs were adults, over the age of four without any puppy or adolescent issues. Now it is June 2003, and Rocky is on his third level of obedience class and doing EXCELLENT. I believe that he has started to come out of his chew stage and is turning in to a very obedient adult. He is still an adolescent, so still has those puppy and now teenage instincts, but it is all worth it.

He loves everyone and all animals; however, he does like to chase the birds and squirrels in "his" yard. Rocky thinks everyone and every dog is his friend. He thinks that all dogs want to play with him and has found out that this is not the case in every instance. To describe Rocky is to say, he is a big goofball who loves to play, loves affection and loves life. He is a 102 lb baby who thinks he can fit anywhere, thinks every animal is his friend to play with and still doesn't know everything about life. I hope to get Rocky and Sadie's CGC, and more. I am so happy to have adopted him. He is my big teddy bear!
