 Carly's Story

September 4, 2003 - Carla, aka Carly-McFarly has landed in an unbelievable forever home. Few people fall into the dog fanatic category, but Gilda and Darien definitely qualify...last week was a tough one for them, they lost one of their two female rotties, Mika, to an aggressive form of cancer on 8/28 - she died at home in her sleep. She was survived by her rottie housemate Chelsea. When Micalea and I did the homecheck this week, we could not believe the amount of sympathy cards and flowers that they received; it proved how important Mika was to their family and friends. This was reinforced during our homecheck where we saw the excessive, and I mean excessive amount of dog toys, the custom orthopedic mattresses (in each room), the special snow booties for the dog's feet followed by the rain boots for the dogs. The booties were matched by a custom Doggie Gortex Rain Coat (for the dogs), and a leather bomber jacket lined with wool (again made for the dogs) - we hadn't yet seen the crate they had for Carly that was filled with a down comforter - I almost wanted to crawl into the crate and sleep!!

Each year Gilda dresses her rotties up for Halloween, to help desensitize the neighbors to the breed - last year they were both angels. I could see the wheels turning last night when Gilda was brainstorming about what Carly will be this year - and yes, she actually takes them out Trick-or-Treating with the neighborhood kids!!

Gilda, once Carly is settled in will probably volunteer with us - I just can't say enough good things about this family. Carly(a) is definitely going to be one spoiled sweet girl!!

Carly

She is precious, sweet, lovable, not assertive socialble a "GREAT" little pup. Happy as a lark, she chased fireflyies on my lawn last nite and tonite she gets her bath. Carla is about 3 months old and was found stray in New Jersey. Carla has gone on many outings - the fire house, Home Depot, etc. - with her foster family, and is being continually socialized with people, other animals and strange sounds/places. She is super, super with the one-year old boy in her foster home who's in love with him. She's great with other dogs and plays outside and inside with them. She has a fantastic sit, a down, a recall. Works off and on leash. Crates like a dream and, by the way, loves to take showers. Carla has some issues around her food bowl and will need to continually be desensitized to being handled while she's eating, as we are doing in foster care. She is social with other dogs and children, tho because her puppy teeth are small and sharp, she should not live with kids under 12.
