Jeager's Story
June 8, 2003 - Jeager joined TRC on the first Michigan Mission in November - the 9th to be exact. After being treated for heartworm, pneuminia, the flu, demodectic mange, and on supplements for his age and compromised immune system, his strong attachment to his donated LL Bean bed, Jeager's foster family was pretty much resigned to his being a permanent member of their household. Gloria, Rachel and Daniel had different ideas.
Meeting him on May 31 at the Pet Adoption Day in Pelham, they applied, went speedily through the adoption process, and Jeager joined them as their forever dog that weekend!
Gloria writes: "Jeager is everything you told us! He is a joy. He rode well in the car going home, lying quietly in his new bed. When he got home, he explored the house on the leash. When he is off leash in the house, he will stick close to one of us. Rachel and Daniel have both taken Jeager on short walks and he did wonderfully on the leash. When Daniel's friends stopped in after school today, he was well mannered and social in greeting them. He loved being brushed and groomed. He has been clear about when he needs to go outside, and he slept in his bed next to Rachel's bed all night until I got up in the morning. WOW!!!! Dale, you have no idea how happy we are. It feels like he's been here all along, he just fits in so well with us! What luck that we found each other!" (we are all more than glad that Jeager found them too!)
July 25 update: Unfortunately, Jeager tore the cruziate ligament in his right hind leg only two weeks after he came home! Surgery was done on 7/14 by Dr. McCarthy at Carlson Veterinary Clinic (thanks to Dale for arranging this!). Jeager is such a trooper! He is recovering quickly, and never loses his calm, sweet disposition. He loves to lie on his back with his head in Rachel's lap for belly rubs, dig in his fenced yard and is the perfect gentlemen when visiting or out in public. Undoubtedly the best dog in the world!!!
